Role purpose
As Legacy and In-Memory Lead, you will work as part of the Public Fundraising team, responsible for the development and implementation of a multi-year Legacy and In-Memory strategy to grow Scope’s legacy pledger and in memory giving pool.
Main responsibilities
Strategy
- To lead on the development and implementation of the legacy and in memory strategy
- Develop a compelling proposition/case for support that engages supporters to live a gift in their will or to give in memory of a loved one.
- Produce annual plans and budgets to deliver the legacy and in memory giving programme.
Budget, Reporting and Risk
- Responsible for management of complex budgets totalling up to £5M income and £250k expenditure
- Model different investment scenarios and oversee monthly and quarterly reforecasting
- To report against organisational wide key performance indicators each month to inform the Executive Leadership team and the Board on the performance of Scope’s Legacy and In-memory programme
- To oversee month-end reporting, working with the Senior Legacy Administration Specialist to monitor and report on legacy pipeline and accrual movements, notification trends, variance analysis and forecasting at campaign, strategy and unit level as required
- To keep abreast of developments in the external marketplace to identify opportunities and threats, reporting appropriately and mitigating negative outcomes where necessary
- To manage our external contracts with consultants ensuring that we maximise the information they give us and adjust our thinking strategically.
Management and Leadership
- Manage and retain a high performing team, ensuring individual and team development is acted on as a high priority.
- Establish clear, simple legacy and in memory policies, procedures and processes to ensure effective management, reporting and delivery of the strategy.
- Lead and manage the focus and pace of the team to ensure a high level of productivity but also maintaining the wellbeing of team members.
- Manage the effective resourcing of the team to ensure the team has the right capacity and capability to fulfil the delivery of the strategy.

Relationship building – internal and external
- To build relationships and influence at all levels of the organisation to secure sufficient buy-in and resources to deliver key activity
- To act as an advocate for legacy giving by working across the organisation to ensure that the legacy message is communicated effectively including identifying, training and developing internal legacy champions/advocates.
- To develop appropriate, personalised supporter journeys for legacy prospects and pledgers, ensuring the delivery of an outstanding supporter experience
- To work across fundraising and with other departments to identify and target legacy prospects within the existing supporter base and other potential legacy audiences across all of Scope’s networks
- Work with the wider team to embed a legacy fundraising culture across Scope helping us achieve the organisations long-term objectives
Marketing
- To work closely with the Marketing Team to develop significant legacy marketing campaigns, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and on brand
- To be involved in the tender and selection of agencies and suppliers to deliver against plans and budgets, negotiating contracts and managing and reporting on performance in order to ensure that value is maximised
Legacy Administration
- Support the Senior Legacy Administration Specialist to ensure that Scopes legacy administration is of the highest standard, that the caseload is progressing, income received in a timely fashion and that complex and contentious cases are managed appropriately
- To manage our external consultants so that they help us to achieve the highest standards whilst meeting cost efficiencies.
- To ensure that relationships with solicitors, executors and next of kin are forefront in our planning and delivery of legacy administration
General
- Build and maintain a good understanding and knowledge of Scope’s aims and objectives and clearly represent them to potential and existing supporter
- Build and maintain an in-depth knowledge of legacies and keep abreast of the latest news and trends
- To work seamlessly across department or team boundaries in a collaborative and constructive manner to implement Scope’s strategic direction.

Person Specification
Knowledge and experience
Essential
- Relevant experience of leading legacy marketing and legacy administration teams
- Campaign managing a range of direct marketing activities including direct mail, email and telephone
- Experience of Dynamics 365 and First Class databases or equivalent.
- Success in delivering results as set out in a departmental budget
- Managing external agencies and internal stakeholders to deliver successful campaigns
- Monitoring and reporting of results and other financial data, including Google Analytics
- Working with data for fundraising purposes, either in using a database to select and segment data or of producing briefs to do so
- Influencing other members of staff and external agencies
- Presenting to a range of audiences including senior members of staff
- Working to a busy schedule, managing a number of campaigns simultaneously
- Using supporter insight to influence successful marketing.
- Working knowledge of fundraising compliance and data protection regulations
