Job description

Role purpose:

The role will provide a bridging service enabling disabled children to access universal activities of their choice and whenever possible in their local community. The short-term support offered encourages universal settings to become fully inclusive to all children and offers support to individual children to become integrated into those settings and become more independent.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities:

This role is a flexible role and isnotfull time; it can fit around studies or another job. Working hours are usually between 1 and 2 hours per session plus time to complete the appropriate paperwork and training.

  • Work with Scope’s Activities for All service to offer information and support to universal settings in order for them to meet needs of disabled children.
  • Model and demonstrate inclusive practices – supporting staff to understand and embrace the inclusion of all children in their activity.
  • Where appropriate offer individual one to one support to disabled children to access activities of their choice, whilst coaching the group to start taking on the role.
  • Plan and prepare face to face or online meetings with family and child before starting activity to gain an understanding of the child’s needs.
  • Act as a link person between the child’s family the setting
  • Act as a link person between the setting and Activities for All
  • Ensure all appropriate paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ensure all training is completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all support is delivered in line with Scope’s policies and procedures and in particular Safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered t

Person specification

Qualification, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of Inclusion policies and procedures
  • A sound understanding of what inclusive practice means in activity setting
  • Experience of inclusion work with children/young people with challenging behaviour, disabilities and/or complex needs
  • Experience of working with children and young people in a play/leisure environment
  • Ability to travel across Leeds
  • Excellent time management and ability to plan own workload and work to deadlines
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as following set procedures and working in conjunction with others
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and child protection
  • Commitment to providing a child-centred service

Desirable

  • Proven family support / community development skills
  • A pro-active attitude to the development of inclusive leisure opportunities for children and young people
  • Knowledge of facilities/services regarding play provision in Leeds
  • A positive approach to the issue of risk in children’s play
  • Understanding of the social model of disability.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication both orally and written
  • Computer literate, including Office 365 and Zoom
  • The ability to manage complex tasks, situations and relationships.
