Scope appoints new chief executive

Scope’s new Chief Executive invites you to work with him to end disability inequality

Scope, the disability equality charity, has appointed Mark Hodgkinson as its new Chief Executive to replace Mark Atkinson, who left at the end of October.

Having launched its new ‘Everyday Equality’ strategy to 2022, Scope is now in its second year of delivery. Mark has a wealth of experience as a commercial leader, marketer and digital director, delivering growth and transformation throughout his career - while ensuring that the customer is the heart of every organisation with which he has been involved.

Prior to joining Scope, Mark has worked in pioneering delivery and change in organisations including Virgin Money, EMI, Asda, McDonald’s, brighterkind care homes and Homes England. Mark is also a non-executive director of Oomph! which helps organisations caring for older adults to improve the wellbeing of every individual in their care.

Mark Hodgkinson said: “I am honoured to be the new Chief Executive of Scope. I am excited about leading Scope through this period, as I think it is on the cusp of achieving great changes with and for disabled people. I want to build on the great start made by Mark Atkinson and the leadership team over the last few years. I was inspired by the vision of everyday equality for disabled people and am now keen to ensure that we follow through on this ambitious strategy.

"One in 5 people in the UK is disabled, and we have to work together to build a society which is more inclusive and is fair for all. I am joining an impressive team who are dedicated to achieving this goal through influencing business practices, Government policy and the public’s attitudes, and providing advice and support to thousands of disabled people, carers and parents of disabled children. I would love to hear from you on how we could work together to make this a reality and would welcome your contact on everydayequality@scope.org.uk. I am confident that Scope will continue to grow as a force for positive change, and I’m proud to be leading the next chapter”.

Scope Chair Andrew McDonald added: “I am delighted that Mark has agreed to join us. His understanding of, and empathy with Scope’s history and ambitions for equality for disabled people shone through, as did his qualities of leadership, acumen and character. I am delighted that he will be at the helm of Scope as we strive to make equality a reality for disabled people, every day”.

Mark Hodgkinson will join Scope on 7 January 2019.
